CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 2019 ALUM OF THE YEAR!
James E. McAnulty attended St. Martin of Tours from 1st to 8th Grades in the 1960s. He retired in 2014 after thirty-eight years of service in public education and he credits much of his success to the time he spent in elementary school. After graduating from Father Judge in 1972, Jim earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Temple University in 1976 and began working that same year in the Philadelphia School District, first as a Spanish teacher and later as a teacher of Students with Special Needs. He then attended Beaver College (Arcadia University) where he received a Master of Education degree in 1983. After 21 years in the classroom at various levels, Jim returned to Temple and became Pennsylvania certified as a Secondary Principal and Supervisor of Special Education. This led to appointments in leadership positions in the Philadelphia School District, first as a Supervisor and later as a Regional Director of Special Education. From 2003 and for the remainder of his career, Jim was a Special Education Supervisor and the Director of Gifted programs in the Bristol Township School District in Levittown. PA. After 2014 Jim was called back to cover administrative vacancies in the District but recently decided it was “really” time to retire. Currently, he lives in Langhorne, PA and works a part time job unrelated to education. He enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.
It is because of the passion and dedication to Catholic Education and the Philadelphia community that James E. McAnulty is SMT’s Alum of the Year.
